    Balloon Modelling for Easter

Last night was our teams balloon modelling training night and we were looking at designs for Easter.  Along with the ever popular Rabbit we tried out a few new ideas.  Len produced a really great Easter Basket that could double as a hat:
And we discovered a design for some really lovely lambs:

I can't wait to try these out in public - they're SO cute!!

    Best wishes

    Balloon Modelling Workshops

During December we have had a blast visiting various WI Groups and introducing them to the fun of Balloon Modelling!  The ladies have all been very game for a laugh and have done very well grasping the basics of balloon twisting to create wands, flowers and the obligatory balloon dog!
These photos are from Abbots Leigh WI and their president, Val Baker said, "I would be grateful if you could pass our thanks onto Helen Eyre for starting off our Christmas meeting with such hilarity.  It was a great success."

For information about our balloon modelling workshops, please get in touch.

    Fantastic Balloon Modelling Training

Len and I joined the talented Graham Lee from Balloon Art Wholesale, at Avonmouth today to play with balloons and put together some new designs to impress our clients.

We rediscovered a design for a Red Arrow aircraft and developed balloon designs for a Dinosaur, Lion & Tiger - and many more!!

It was also a fantastic opportunity to catch up with some of our entertainer friends. :o)

    Yours twisted,

Face Painting & Balloon Modelling fun at UWE

Below are just a few of our face painting & balloon modelling pictures from the Freshers weekend at UWE. As usual this was a really great booking with lots of laughs. We saw the return of the Aled hat challenge, as well as a request for a wearable duck balloon for the student's beach party later in the week! Sharon demonstrated her skills with some of our new eye designs. These eye designs will be making an appearance on our newly revamped face painting design sheets in 2010.

Balloon Modelling fun at the Patricia Bunnell lecture

Last week I went to meet Patricia Bunnell from the US who was in the UK teaching us some of her fantastic Balloon modelling ideas. I learnt a lot from her including some ideas to organise my balloons which have already helped.

We learnt some fantastic Christmas balloons. Here is a brilliant Father Christmas balloon mask modelled by Dave Hickory (www.davehickory.co.uk), one of our entertainer friends.

And my personal favourite was Eeyore :)

I'm looking forward to the Christmas season so that I can use the new designs!!

Cats Whiskers Balloon Modelling Training Night

Last Thursday night the balloon modelling members of the Cats Whiskers team got together for a spot of training to refresh a few designs and learn some more new balloon modelling designs.

It was Becky's first introduction to balloon modelling training and as you can see, she really enjoyed the experience!! Particularly modelling Len's rather spectacular Ghost Busters back pack and slime gun! (excuse the quality of the picture - I love my phone but the camera isn't the best quality!!)

I took three bin bags of balloon models to my local pre-school the next day which put huge smiles on the children's faces :)

So much fun, so little time!

A big thank you to everyone who booked us during the summer! The Cats Whiskers team have had SO much fun!! :) We've been to parties, festivals, summer camps, fun days and open days all over the area in Bristol, Bath and the South West. So, my apologies for taking so long to update the blog - but there has just been way too much fun going on for me to catch up until now.

So, the children are back at school, the tree's are turning colour, nights are drawing in and we're really looking forward to Halloween!!

But before we get carried away with the witches and vampires, here are some of the highlights of the summer:

    Camp Xtra workshop -

Private commission for a fancy dress party - quote from the client, "Thanks very much, it was a great success and was cool how realistic it looked. I'm sure that I'll be in touch again if another opportunity arises to be painted for some reason. It was great fun and just made the costume come alive."

Little Monster Baby & Toddler Show

Here are a few pictures from the Little Monster Baby & Toddler Show at the weekend.
Sharon and Nina had a fantastic time doing face painting & balloon modelling!
They were very busy - as usual at this event!
You can see Sharon in the photo's with the new and rather gorgeous banner for BabyKicks! The leaflets for BabyKicks flew off the table - so we're looking forward to being busy body painting more pregnant bumps in the near future!

    UWE Freshers Weekend

At the beginning of January, as the students went back to University, the Cats Whiskers team of face painters and balloon modellers returned to UWE for the freshers party.

Len (the other Helen), our balloon modelling expert, excelled herself with a spectacular top hat for Aled - chief Angel - and Sharon was on form with henna and face paint as the pictures show!

In the wars.... That's Star Wars!!

We get to meet the most amazing people when we work and this weekend was no exception.

I was face painting and balloon modelling at a store launch for a local toy company in Weston Super Mare this weekend. It was a great day and they had five Star Wars characters along for the day to promote the launch. It caused a huge amount of attention and it wasn't just the children who were excited to see them and have their picture taken!! Needless to say I was busy creating light sabres from balloons and face painting Darth Maul and the Storm Troopers!!

Makes a change from Rudolf at this time of the year. ;)

Face painting and Balloon modelling for Children in Need

Tonight is the second anniversary of one of my two World Records!! In 2006 I went to the BBC in Birmingham and took part in a 4 hour face painting team world record attempt, which we achieved. :)

The full title on the award says, 'The record for the most faces painted in four hours was achieved by a team of five independent face painters sponsored by Snazaroo Ltd., who painted a total of 1071 different faces, using a minimum of three colours per face, as part of Children in Need held at BBC Birmingham on 17th November 2006.'

This year (and last year) we face painted and balloon modelled for one of the call centers in Bristol that was accepting donations from those wonderful people who call in to give their money to Children in Need. It's always a good night and the atmosphere is wonderful.

Here is some of the face paintingand balloon modelling we did:

    Back to School

It's that time of year again where routine is restored and the children resume their studies at school.

A group of entertainers, including myself, also went 'Back to School'. Well, actually we went to QJam! This is an event held in Bristol annually where Qualatex - the balloon manufacturers - host training sessions for Balloon Modellers. We had a great day and much learning and laughter was shared by all.

Here's a picture for Mel - Ozzy in action. ;o)

My daughter loved the new 'Hobby Horse' style Unicorn balloon that I'd learnt!

    Best wishes

    Festivals, Funerals and Christenings

I had a first at the weekend! I was booked to balloon model at a funeral!! Ironically, I was booked to face paint at a Christening the next day, so I experienced both ends of the spectrum.

Actually, as parties go, this celebration of the life of a loved one lost to cancer was amazing! It really was a celebration of her life bringing together all the aspects of life that she loved. There was flamenco dancing & Scottish dancing, singing and an open mic to share stories of her adventures. Nobody was dressed in black and there were loads of family and friends there. She must have been an amazing person.

The girls, meanwhile were at several other events in the area enjoying the Summer weather!! The team that went to Keynsham Music Festival on Sunday had a great time but were swamped under the gazebo when the heavens opened!!

Here are some of Sharon's pictures from Keynsham.
