Face Painted British Flags - Step by steps

In February I worked with Snazaroo, the UK face paint manufacturer, to create some step by steps and photographic images for British flags.

Some of these images are now being used on http://www.snazaroo.com/

To follow the step by step for a full face Union Jack have a look at this link: http://www.snazaroo.com/assets/cpcms/painting_guides/Union_Jack.pdf

To follow the step by step for a cheek art Union Jack design have a look at my beautiful daughter at this link:

For the Scottish Flag or Saltire:

Here's the step by step for the St George flag:
Create the outline for the flag using a fine brush and white paint.

Fill in the white sections of the flag using a flat brush.

Complete the flag by filling in the cross with red paint.

Step 1: Using white paint the band of the hat, the end bobble and the hair.
Step 2: Add the moustache and the beard.
Step 3: Using red, fill in the hat to connect the band and bobble; then add the nose and mouth detail.
Step 4: Using a fine brush and black face paint outline and add eyes.

If you want a step by step of how to draw a more detailed full bodied Father Christmas / Santa follow this link to About.com http://drawsketch.about.com/od/cartooning/ss/draw_santa_cartoon.htm?nl=1

Click on the "step by steps" label to the left of this post for more design ideas - there is a penguin & Rudolf as well.

Rudolf cheek art step by step design for Christmas

For Rudolf we used Snazaroo Light Brown, White, Bright Red and Black face paints.

Step 1: Create two joining heart shapes - the top one is brown and the bottom white. Use petal brush strokes on either side of the brown heart shape to create ears.
Step 2: Using a fine brush and light brown face paint, create the antlers.
Step 3: Add a red nose at the join between the brown and red heart shapes and add a smaller dot of bright red at the bottom of the white heart shape for a tongue.
Step 4: Use a fine brush with black face paint to add eye's and the muzzle detail.

Body Painting & Get Technical in Illusion Magazine Issue 10

The eagerly anticipate issue 10 of Illusion magazine (www.illusionmagazine.co.uk) has finally arrived on my doorstep!

In this edition Snazaroo (www.snazaroo.com) have once again chosen one of my body paintings to advertise their wonderful brand of paint, which we at Cats Whiskers use for all our face and body painting work. The editing team have done an amazing job translating my technical page from the random scribbles I send them into a beautifully polished and professional piece of work. My thanks to them!!

Now to grab a cup of tea and sit back to read the rest of the magazine. :)

Christmas Penguin Cheek Art design step by step

Last week the Cats Whiskers Face Painting team got together for our monthly training night and we focused on Christmas Cheek Art - as it is the season!

Here's a step by step for a Christmas Penguin using Snazaroo face paints:

Step 1: Using white, start with two petal shapes next to each other for the eye area and then extend the body down. Add a white line just above the eyes for the base of the hat and remember the ball on the end!

Step 2: Using red, fill in the hat area.

Step 3: Using yellow or orange add the beak. Then create the feet by overlapping three petal shapes.

Step 4: Using black, outline the white body and add wings.

Step 5: Using black and a fine brush, outline the details and add eyes.

Once you have the general idea of creating a penguin you can have some fun with the design, as shown in this design by the talented Nina Faye!

Halloween face painting step by steps

It's getting close to Halloween and it's time to dust off those face paints and give your children a scary face paint for trick or treating!!

A face painting friend, Cindy Trusty (http://www.cindyscc.com/), has just done a series of step by step face painting designs for her local newspaper in Minneapolis, USA which I thought might be useful for anyone looking for design ideas!

It's called Last minute artful Halloween tricks and shows step by steps of a cat face paint design, a pirate face paint design, a vampire face paint design and a butterfly face paint design.

If you don't want something that completely covers the face, how about a pumpkin princess as modelled by Izzy?

How to create a Glitter Tattoo video

This is my first dabble at 'How To' videos and as I'm preparing for a Glitter Tattoo gig this weekend it seemed a good time to try out the idea!

Glitter tattoos are really popular, especially with teens. Here's one I did of a tribal dragon.

Assisted by Sharon, we came up with the following instructional video.

    Enjoy!
